Littlejohn Environmental Consulting specializes in water treatment and management consulting within the mining sector across British Columbia and Western Canada.

With a deep respect for the land and a commitment to reconciliation, Littlejohn Environmental Consulting's mission is to ensure that mining activities are designed with respect for stewardship of water and the environment.

My experience includes open pit mining, underground mining, in-situ mining, heap leaching, flotation, cyanide, and primary metal production. Further, I have extensive expertise in a wide range of commodity mining sectors, such as gold, copper, lead/zinc, coal, oil sands, uranium, lithium, iron ore, and limestone quarrying.

Water Management & Treatment

Littlejohn Environmental offers extensive consulting services related to mine water treatment and management. I have senior experience in standard best practices as well as innovative methods of addressing mining contaminants such as metal, acidity, sediment, selenium, sulphate, ammonia, cyanide, salts, and naphthenic acid.

    I provide a deep understanding of mine water treatment, including best available technology studies, research, design, and operational support.

    I have been a senior technical lead in the successful development and commercialization of multiple innovative mine water treatment technologies.

    My focus is on holistic solutions for managing and treating mine water that reflect real lifecycle costs, and resiliency to uncertainty such as climate change.

    I provide strategic planning for the sustainable management of mine water, integrating water balance and quality modelling, mine planning, tailings management, and regulatory frameworks to safely manage water.

    I assist mine proponents and Indigenous governments to make a project the best it can be so all parties can make informed decisions.

Environmental & Technical Services

Littlejohn Environmental provides thorough environmental and technical services to support sustainable mining practices. I carefully evaluate mining projects in the context of best practices, resiliency to uncertainty, and use of source control to reduce environmental risks. My evaluation is informed by my long career in the resource sector and many lessons learned from project success and failure.

  • Technical Review for Indigenous Nations Affected By Mining

    I provide specialized technical reviews for Indigenous nations, provincial and federal governments, and local communities impacted by mining, with a focus on water.

    I promote collaboration, understanding, and respect for the perspectives and rights of Indigenous communities.


  • Geochemistry, Metal Leaching, Acid Rock Drainage, and Mining Chemicals

    I evaluate how mines may contaminate water, including mineral sources of contaminants as well as cyanide, explosive residue, and process chemicals.

    I make sure these issues are rigorously accounted for and mitigated in project planning.

Regulatory Engagement & Compliance

Littlejohn Environmental assists Indigenous governments and mining companies in cooperation on environmental regulations, compliance planning, permits, and impact assessments. I focus on fostering collaboration between Indigenous governments, mine proponents, and regulatory agencies to prioritize compliance, sustainability, and social responsibility.

Mine Closure & Reclamation

Littlejohn Environmental provides expert guidance to ensure that mining sites are safe and environmentally stable after mining activities. I focus on creating closure plans to reduce environmental impacts and restore the land, offering sound advice on policy and regulatory requirements to help project stakeholders achieve successful reclamation outcomes.
